A chance meeting between PJ Harvey, Afghan Whigs and Sparklehorse in bar at dusk. That will set the scene for The Douglas Fir’s new album “California Memory.”

“Fake your way to the front of the line, and forget about all those friends that you have left behind...” The opening lyric on The Douglas Fir’s new album California Memory that ushers listeners into twelve song album about, opportunity, indecisiveness, deceit, longing, and obsession.

Mixed in Los Angeles by Brad Wood (Liz Phair, Sunny Day Real Estate, Pete Yorn, Ben Lee) the new album was recorded in Boston and San Francisco. The Fir’s moody indie-pop songs and sensibilities take the listener on a series of adventures in a city as nightfall takes over.

The Douglas Fir has shared the stage with such acts as Metric, The Pernice Brothers, Grant Lee Phillips, The Wrens, Pinback, Rob Dickinson (Catherine Wheel), and others. The band has also performed live on Seattle station KEXP and the Fir was named “Best New Act” in the Boston Phoenix. Songs have featured on MTV and other syndicated television shows. Songwriter and singer Jay Walsh has also accompanied Tanya Donelly (Belly / Breeders / Throwing Muses) live on guitar.
